Stars, Stripes, and a Big Blue: Placing 2nd in the World Cup and Winning the Gulf Cup on July 4th

On the Fourth of July—a day already steeped in celebration and pride—the Rising Sons crew added another reason to raise the flag and toast the stars and stripes. In a single day on the water, we did what few dream of: placed second in the Blue Marlin World Cup and won the Gulf Cup, all with one unforgettable fish.

Fishing the World Cup is no small feat. It's a one-day, global tournament where teams from across the world compete in their home waters for the biggest blue marlin. Lines go in at the same time around the globe, and it's a race against time—and giants. For us, the battleground was the Gulf of Mexico.

After hours of scanning the horizon and working the spread, the moment hit like thunder. A massive blue marlin exploded on the teaser, and the crew sprang into action. It was a battle of will, strength, and pure adrenaline. When we finally got her to the boat, we knew she was special.

Back at the dock, the official weight was confirmed. She was enough to take the top spot in the Gulf Cup, making us champions of our region—and placing us second in the entire world.

To compete on a global level and come within reach of the World Cup title is an achievement that fuels us to keep pushing harder. Winning the Gulf Cup on America’s birthday made it that much sweeter. The blue marlin was a true Gulf giant, and this catch was a moment we’ll remember for the rest of our lives.

We’re proud of our team, proud of our waters, and proud to represent the Gulf on the world stage.
